1. Introduction & Linden Lab Disclaimer

Welcome to Thundr, an in-world matchmaking service accessed via Heads-Up Display (HUD) within the Second Life metaverse. By attaching the Thundr HUD and utilizing the service, you agree to this combined Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

Disclaimer: Thundr is an independent third-party service developed and maintained by an individual developer. Thundr is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Linden Research, Inc. (Linden Lab). Second Life® is a trademark of Linden Research, Inc.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect data strictly necessary to facilitate matches. We do not collect email addresses, real-world identification, or your avatar's in-world region coordinates.

Data Type Required / Optional Description
SL UUID Required Your unique Second Life identifier.
SL Username Required Your Second Life display name or legacy name.
Demographics Required Birthdate (used to calculate your age and apply age-preference filters), SL Gender, and "Look for" gender.
Profile Details Optional Passions, Location (text description only), Job, School.
Sexual Orientation Optional Classified as sensitive data; provided strictly at your own discretion.
UGC Optional Photos or text you upload to your profile.

3. How We Use Your Data & Explicit Consent

Your data is securely transmitted from the in-world HUD to an external web server exclusively to match you with other users and maintain service functionality.

By inputting optional sensitive data (such as Sexual Orientation), you provide explicit consent for Thundr to process this data solely for matching purposes.

Thundr does not share, sell, or rent your data to any third parties, advertisers, or external platforms.

4. Age Restrictions & Compliance

Because Thundr operates independently of Second Life's internal maturity rating systems, we require explicit self-certification.

18+ Only: The Thundr service is strictly for users who are 18 years of age or older in the real world.

By using Thundr, you legally warrant that you are an adult in your jurisdiction and that your use of the HUD complies with Second Life's Community Standards for adult interactions.

5. User Safety, Vetting, & Assumption of Risk

No Background Checks: Thundr does not conduct criminal background checks, nor do we verify the real-life identity, age, or intentions of the person operating any avatar.

Assumption of Risk: You agree that interactions with other avatars—whether in HUD chat, direct IMs, or in-world meetups—are entirely at your own risk. Thundr and its developer are not liable for harassment, griefing, emotional distress, or damages that occur within the Second Life environment or the real world as a result of a match.

Limitation of Liability: To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to hold the developer of Thundr harmless from any claims, disputes, or liabilities arising from your use of the HUD or interactions with other users.

6. Data Retention and Security

We employ reasonable security measures to protect our servers against unauthorized access.

  • Inactive Accounts: If you do not use the HUD for 2 years, your data is automatically purged from our servers.
  • Chat Data: All match-related chat data processed through our servers is permanently deleted immediately upon an "unmatch" action or account deletion.
  • Banned Users: If you are permanently banned for violating community guidelines, your UUID and minimal necessary records are retained in a "frozen" state for 2 years to enforce the ban, after which they are permanently deleted.
  • Data Breach: In the event of a server breach, affected users will be notified via in-world IM or group notice, as we do not collect email addresses for external contact.

7. User Rights (Access, Correction, Deletion)

You maintain full control over your data.

  • Correction: You can update or modify your profile at any time via the HUD.
  • Deletion: You may instantly delete your profile and all associated data from our servers using the "Delete Account" function within the HUD.
  • Support: For manual deletion requests, data access inquiries, or to report a banned account for expedited deletion, contact ThundrCSR Resident in-world.

8. Policy Updates

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Significant changes will be communicated via HUD update notifications or in-world notices. Continued use of the HUD constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
